In 2009, Lacazette had a stellar campaign in the Championnat de France amateur team at Lyon scoring 12 goals in 22 appearances. Then manager Claude Puel gave the Frenchman a call up to the senior side. He made his first appearance coming off the bench against Montpellier in May 2010.
In July 2010, Lacazette agreed a three-year professional contract at the Stade de Gerland but due to him having a year left on his youth contract, it began in July 2011. Following a successful international campaign with France U19, Roma showed interest in the 20-year-old and he received praise from the media and football pundits all over the globe.
He also showed his dedication to Lyon by playing in an Emirates Cup game, just hours after winning the 2010 UEFA U19 European Football Championships. He started the new season training with the first team full time but did have a spell at CFA team in September. He scored his first goal against Sochaux in October and gave Lyon the 2-1 win.
His Champions League debut came three days later against Benfica. After coming off the bench at half-time, Lyon were trailing 4-0. Minutes after his introduction, he assisted Yoann Gourcuff for Lyon’s opening goal. He later assisted Bafétimbi Gomis in the 85th minute but his team were unable to complete a comeback, losing 4-3.
Lacazette likes to play long balls and cut in from a wide position. Having already drawn comparisons with former Lyon and Barcelona player Sonny Anderson, this won’t be the last time you hear the name Alexandre Lacazette.
