Thierry Henry winner earns Arsenal victory against Leeds

Thierry Henry made a fairytale return to Arsenal, scoring a 77th minute winner - just 10 minutes after coming on as a substitute - as the Gunners beat Leeds United 1-0 in an FA Cup third round clash at the Emirates Stadium.

It was sweet revenge for Arsenal after Leeds beat them at the same stage of last season's FA Cup competition.

And it was a sweet return for Henry to the club where he is still adored. He left Arsenal in June 2007 for Barcelona, before joining New York Red Bulls in the summer of 2010.

After a fairly dull first hour of football at the Emirates on Monday night, a rumble of anticipation rippled around the ground as Henry warmed up, progressing to notable excitement as Henry - wearing the number 12 shirt - prepared to take to the field.

A huge cheer greeted his introduction as a substitute - and Henry was as delighted and excited as the Gunners fans were when he latched on to Alex Song's pass and slipped the ball into the far corner.

Henry's appearance has changed - he is now sporting a beard - but his talent and class has not. And nor, it seems, has his ability to make a big impact on a game.

Henry's winner secures Arsenal a fourth round home tie against Aston Villa.
