Scholes returns as United dump holders City out of FA Cup

Manchester United secured some measure of revenge over Manchester City with a 3-2 FA Cup third round win against the holders' 10 men.

Sometimes the match itself does not match up to the hype, but this game did not disappoint.

Prior to kick-off, United announced that Paul Scholes (pictured) will play for the club until the end of the season and the midfielder was named on the bench.

United led 3-0 at half-time, thanks to goals from Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck then Rooney again - and City played the majority of the game with 10 men after Vincent Kompany was red carded in the 12th minute.

The holders rallied after the break and pulled a goal back when Aleksandar Kolarov struck in the 48th minute and Sergio Aguero added a second after 64 minutes, but United held on to book their place in the fourth round.

Chelsea had no problems seeing off Portsmouth eventually, but all four goals came in the second half. Mata struck after 48 minutes and Ramires added a second in the 85th minute, then struck again two minutes later. Lampard wrapped it up in stoppage time.
