Powell relishing Fulham challenge

Charlton Athletic manager Chris Powell is relishing the opportunity of taking his League One table toppers to Craven Cottage early next year in the FA Cup third round, to take on Premier League outfit Fulham.

Powell has guided the Addicks to a near faultless campaign in the league this season, losing just once in 19 games, a feat that sees the Londoners clear of second placed Sheffield Wednesday by a margin of seven points.

"This is what we all aspire to - to compete at the highest level. It's fantastic for me and my staff to pit our wits against Martin Jol and a top class set up," Powell told the club's website.

Powell has an unblemished record in the FA Cup as Charlton boss, arriving after the club's exit in the competition at the hands of Spurs at the third round stage last season. He is looking forward to putting that record to the test at Fulham.

"Craven Cottage is a traditional and atmospheric ground - the crowd always play their part but I'm sure our supporters will be out in force and will make it a terrific atmosphere."

Charlton will take on Fulham in the FA Cup third round on the weekend of January 7-8.
