Premier League: Who will make the biggest impact?

Some see the Community Shield as a first glimpse of their multi-million pound summer signings, but others see the traditional curtain raiser as a waste of time that empties out fans' pockets and has no influence on the upcoming season.

This year's curtain raiser was at Villa Park and saw European champions Chelsea go head-to-head with Premier League winners Manchester City - and it was City who came out on top with a 3-2 win.

It's been a busy summer for the Blues, who appointed Roberto Di Matteo on a permanent basis and splashed their cash in the transfer market. Eden Hazard, Oscar and Marko Marin have all arrived at Stamford Bridge to give the Blues more attacking flair.

The last minute goal against QPR to seal the Premier League crown will be a moment that City fans will never forget. However, the Eastlands faithful don't want their team just to be a one hit wonder - they want Mancini's men to become a dominant force in the running for the trophy.

City haven't been as active in the transfer market as Chelsea so far this summer despite rumours that Roberto Mancini was after Arsenal striker Robin van Persie. We'll have to wait and see if they spring any surprises but the Manchester City team is still full of world class players no matter what.

A win for the reigning Premier League champions in the Community Shield is one thing, but how will City - and Chelsea - fare next season?

Total Football looks at the Chelsea and Manchester City players who could have a big impact in the Premier League.

Eden Hazard

CLUB: Chelsea

AGE: 21

After ripping Ligue 1 defenders to pieces, Hazard (pictured) caught the eye of many big clubs and in the end was part of a three way battle to secure his signature.

The two Manchester clubs fought hard and strong but the Belgian winger decided to move to London and play for Chelsea.

With his speed, skills and goal scoring ability, Hazard is already a star despite only still being 21 years of age.

The £32m arrival is expected to do great things at the Bridge.

Chelsea have paid big money for the midfield ace and the fans want the Premier League trophy back in London.

Vincent Kompany

CLUB: Manchester City

AGE: 26

Lifting the Premier League crown as captain of your club is something that Vincent Kompany will never forget.

However, the Belgian defender wants that moment to happen again.

Manchester City are a growing club with huge ambitions and expectations.

Now that they have one, fans want more.

Ever since joining the club, Vincent Kompany has been a leader on the pitch. He's level headed and handles the pressure very well. Just take that goal against Manchester United for example.

A great tackler and header of the ball, Kompany is an excellent captain for Mancini's side.

Fernando Torres

CLUB: Chelsea

AGE: 28

After the goal drought, that miss against United and a regular place on the substitutes bench, Fernando Torres' career was going from bad to worse.

But then that goal against Barcelona seemed to give Fernando a burst of energy.

Countless excellant performances followed and then came the Euro's where Torres excelled himself. Finishing top goal scorer and with another medal around his neck, Torres would of had an amazing summer.

However, now the new season is dawning on us, it's time for the Spaniard to really show the world why Chelsea paid £50m for him.

He wants to replicate the form that saw him become one of Europe's top forwards whilst at Liverpool.

Torres struck for Chelsea in the Community Shield on 39 minutes, only for Manchester City to hit back to claim victory. However, after Didier Drogba's departure, Torres is Chelsea's star striker.

Sergio Aguero

CLUB: Manchester City

AGE: 24

NATIONALITY: Argentinian

Sergio Aguero is probably still pinching himself after that sensational, last gasp goal against QPR to win the Premier League trophy for Manchester City.

The Argentinian has been a superb buy for Roberto Mancini. He's been banging in the goals left, right and centre for City and his work rate has been phenomenal.

After last season's heroics, Aguero's mission is simply to go and do it all again but even better this time.

The striker wants more goals and more importantly more medals.

He's in the form of his life and now that his fellow countryman, Carlos Tevez is back, City look more and more like a team that can score goals.

Frank Lampard

CLUB: Chelsea

AGE: 34

Despite coming towards the end of his career, Frank Lampard still remains an integral part of Di Matteo's Chelsea side.

Playing in a deep-lying role, Lampard's passing remains brilliant and his experience is vital for the Blues.

The mix of experienced players and future fledglings works well for a lot of teams. Lampard and Oscar could form a superb partnership.

In big games, Lampard always steps up his game and produces great performances.

He may not be an ever-present in the Chelsea side this upcoming season but he is already a Stamford Bridge legend.
