Harewood signs for Barnsley

Veteran striker Marlon Harewood has penned a one-year deal with Championship side Barnsley.

After an unsuccessful trial with newly promoted Sheffield Wednesday, Harewood didn’t need to go far to find an interested club, signing for Wednesday's Yorkshire rivals.

Harewood was available on a free transfer, after his departure from Nottingham Forest at the end of last season.

Keith Hill snapped up the ex-West Ham and Aston Villa poacher, as cover for the injured Egyptian target man Mido, who also signed on a one-year deal earlier this summer.

The 32-year-old returns to Oakwell, after a short loan spell with the Tykes during the 2010-11 season, where he grabbed four goals in ten appearances.

Harewood is expected to be in contention for a starting place this weekend, ahead for the Championship opening weekend with Barnsley beginning against Tony Mowbray's Middlesbrough.
