McCarthy pens new Palace deal

Crystal Palace defender Paddy McCarthy has signed a new three-year contract at Selhurst Park.

The 29-year-old has played 147 times for the Eagles and his new deal means he is tied to the club until 2015.

The Irish international joined Palace from Charlton in 2008 and was named captain in 2010.

He has a reputation of being a strong, reliable defender. Last season he played a massive 50 times for the London side leading them to a 17th place finish and a Carling Cup semi-final.

On signing the new deal, McCarthy said: "I'm delighted. It was something that myself, the manager and the chairman have been talking about for some time so it's great to have it sorted.

"I thought we made good progression last year and speaking to the manager I know we're going to push on again this season.

"Everything's positive about the place, I'm very happy here and have a great relationship with everybody at the club."
