O’Driscoll bolsters backline with Collins capture

Sean O’Driscoll has completed his second signing as Nottingham Forest boss after it was confirmed that Danny Collins will join the Championship club from Stoke City for an undisclosed fee.

The Welsh international, who found opportunities at the Britannia few and far between last season, had spent loan spells at Ipswich Town and West Ham United.

The versatile defender becomes the second new arrival at the City Ground this summer following Adlene Guedioura’s move from Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After the departures of key defenders Chris Gunter, Luke Chambers and Joel Lynch, O’Driscoll (pictured) has moved quickly to bolster the threadbare backline.

The Reds are also interested in securing the services of Ipswich Town defender Damien Delaney and Portsmouth full back Greg Halford, who is being allowed to leave the Fratton Park club amid their financial crisis.

Although these signings are not quite what the Reds’ fans anticipated following their takeover by the Kuwaiti Al-Hasawi family, O’Driscoll has revealed that he is interested in securing a return to the City Ground for English international Jermaine Jenas.

Jenas, 29, came through the youth ranks at Forest before excelling in their first team. The Nottingham-born midfielder was then sold to Newcastle United for £5m in 2002.

Injuries have blighted Jenas’ promising career and a move to the Championship club would enable him to get his career back on track but the move is still in doubt due to Jenas’ expected high wage demands and his desire to remain as a Premier League footballer.
