Zola recruits new Italian backroom staff in Watford adventure

New Watford boss Gianfranco Zola has wasted no time in stamping his mark on the Hertfordshire-based club by recruiting a host of new backroom staff members ahead of the new Championship campaign.

The 46-year-old Italian (pictured) has used his knowledge back home to lure former Juventus coach Giancarlo Corradini and ex-Napoli coach Dodo Surmani as assistant coaches as well as appointing new technical director Gianluca Nani who worked in a similar role for Zola during his time at West Ham United.

Zola replaced Sean Dyche who unluckily lost his job earlier this month after guiding to the Hornets to a respectable 11th place considering their former resources.

Following the takeover from new Italian owner Giampaolo Pozzo, Watford have re-assessed their ambitions and will be looking to secure a play-off place this season.

Zola has retained a few members of the former backroom staff however with former goalkeeper Alec Chamberlain retaining his position as goalkeeping coach, sports scientist Matt Springham carrying on as well as Under-18 coach David Hughes continuing in his respective position.
