Zola welcomes seven new signings to Vicarage Road

Watford have began their summer signing spree by securing the signatures of seven players, including the former Arsenal goalkeeper Manuel Almunia (pictured).

The Spanish goalkeeper and former QPR defender Fitz Hall are the more experienced of Zola’s batch of fresh faces.

Hall, 31, and Almunia, 35, are thought to be ideal replacements for the departed centre back Adrian Mariappa and promising goalkeeper Scott Loach who have signed for Reading and Ipswich Town respectively.

The pair, who both played in the Premier League last season, have been joined by five loan signings from Udinese and Granada, two clubs also owned by the Pozzo family who recently bought the Vicarage Road club.

Matej Vydra and Steve Leo Beleck, who ply their trade as forwards and Almen Abdi, the Swiss midfielder have signed on season-long loans from Udinese, who qualified for the Champions League after a successful season in Serie A.

The trio have been joined by defender Daniel Pudil and striker Ikechi Anya from Spanish club Granada.

Hornets fans will be pleased to know that some of their loan signings have international experience as Abdi has represented Switzerland on six occasions and Pudil has 22 caps for the Czech Republic.
