FA handed deadline for football overhaul

The Football Association have been given until March to implement radical changes to the way the game is run, or face government intervention.

The FA have been issued a February 29 deadline to bring in a new licensing structure. If they do not comply, government legislation will be put in place.

Sports Minister Hugh Robertson (pictured) said: "Governance has failed to keep up with the modern game. I believe there are improvements that can be made.

"I do not want government to run football, so this is an opportunity for the football family to work together to benefit the game in the long term."
