Redknapp won't stand in way of Bale

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has said that he won't try to persuade Gareth Bale otherwise if he wants to play for Great Britain at the London 2012 Olympics.

Football associations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are concerned that releasing their players may threaten their FIFA independence.

However, Redknapp said of the 22-year-old, "If he wants to play, I am sure we will let him. It is a great honour for anybody to play in the Olympic games."

The Tottenham manager added: "I am just looking forward to a great summer of sport. We have got the European Championship and the Olympic games. I'll watch the football but I'd like to go and watch the athletics and boxing."
