Wales striker Craig Bellamy has been brought into Stuart Pearce’s Team GB squad for the London 2012 Olympics.

The Liverpool forward broke a code of silence and revealed he will lead the line for the team when the competition kicks off in July.

He will make up one of the three players over 23 allowed in the squad.

Speaking at an event in Singapore, Bellamy said: "I am in the Olympic squad — but I was supposed to keep it quiet."

The Welshman has had a career dogged by controversy, including attacking then Liverpool teammate John Arne Riise with a golf club in 2007.

But being capped 69 times for Wales gives Bellamy a wealth of international experience that Stuart Pearce’s young side will need when the tournament begins.

Pearce is set to name the rest of his 18-man squad by the end of the week and it is widely expected that likes of David Beckham and Ryan Giggs will make up the two other allowable senior players.
